Moving the forums to a new host...

I found a new host that's a bit cheaper and offers more services for secure web traffic.

These services will be vital for the plans I have for the app.  For right now, you can continue to use the forums.  I'll post another message when the move is underway.   Right now I need to get the new host set up.

One of the best emails I've gotten

I got this email a while ago from a user of WWDiary.  His name is John and he made my day :)

I wanted to take a moment to personally thank you for the creation of, and all your continued work towards the WWDiary app. I am a lifetime WW member who had fallen off the wagon for quite a few years for one reason or another. I had tried to get back into the habit of writing down what I was eating but just couldn't get back into the swing of it. Your app has made it fun and extremely easy to get back on track and get back into good eating habits. Having the diary, points finder, and weight tracker all in once place that is always in my pocket gives me no excuse for not being able to account for what I'm eating.

I've just sent a donation to express my gratitude for your hard work, that in turn has helped me get beyond the "hump" that was too steep to climb these past years. I'm six weeks in, down 11 pounds and still going strong towards getting back to my goal weight. Thank you once again for your dedication to this app and for so selflessly offering it to so many with the same goal in common.

John
P.S. I'm really looking forward to Weight Log enhancements, especially if it will do the math for me to show how much weight has been lost, keep up the great work!

Today WWDiary has over 35,000 active users and a bunch of great ratings on the Android Marketplace.  I've gotten a phone in the Google Developer Contest and donations from grateful users are still trickling in.   So thank all of YOU for the kind words, suggestions, and donations!

By the way, don't forget to check out the thread on the forum where everyone can post their weight-loss results!

wwdiary - version 3.4.7 posted to Android Market

Thanks Gregg for reporting the force close when editing a point entry!

This update should fix that.   If anyone encounters any more force closes, please email me or post here or in the forum.  If the app generates an error report, please send it so that I can track down the problem.    Thanks!

wwdiary - version 3.4.6 posted to Android Market

I think I found the cause of those pesky force closes and error reports.

Please update to the new version and let me know if you still have trouble.

wwdiary - version 3.4.2 posted to Android Market

This update includes the weight log enhancements listed below as well as some bug fixes and extra debugging.

New weightlog enhancements

Now you can track weight goals by long-pressing on a weight entry and setting it as the start of your goal.   Every entry since the start of the goal will display the loss(negative numbers) or gain (positive numbers) since the start of the goal.

What do you think?

wwdiary - version 3.3.3 posted to Android Market

A few users are experiencing continuous crashes of the app when they try to open it. This version contains better logging so I can figure out why their databases will not open.

wwdiary - version 3.3.2 posted to Android Market

This update will hopefully fix some of the database errors that occasionally happen when inserting new foods.

Bought hosting; new forum

Check out the new forum, and register for an account or sign in with your Google Account ( no registration needed ).

There's currently a general category and a support category you can post discussions in.  So if you need help with wwdiary, other users may be able to help you out there.

I'm paying for hosting with the donation money that I've gotten so far.  Hopefully I can add new features like build my own food lookup database.   And if the donations keep coming in, I'll be that much closer to being able to implement some of the ideas I have for the app.

wwdiary - version 3.3.1 posted to Android Market

There is now a font preference for the point log that will let you choose between the default font for text or the handwriting font.

If you guys have any suggestions for free True Type Fonts (ttf) that look nice, send me a link and I'll see about including it.

wwdiary - version 3.3 posted to Android Market

Expanded barcode functionality!
There is point lookup for items you've entered in the past, I still have not found a service that is compatible with my needs for data lookups.  It seems most sites are very protective of their data ( I would be too, it's alot of work to collect that much info ).

Anyway...
When you scan a barcode, it will try to look it up in the phone database.  If found, it will fill out the information you used for it last time.  If it doesn't find anything in the phone database, it will do a product lookup.

If it finds something in the search it will place it in a textbox for you to edit if you would like.  If it doesn't find anything you can enter in a custom description.  Then it will save that data to the phone database for use the next time you scan that barcode.

Let me know how it works, I'll probably be tweaking things till I get it just right.
The more you use it, the more useful it will be.   As you add barcodes to the phone database, it will remember them.

wwdiary - version 3.2.9 posted to Android Market

This version has sharper images in it for higher resolution devices like the Nexus One and the Droid.

I had to change or recreate some images because I either didn't save the source images, or they were simply lower res images and it couldn't be helped(arrows on the date changer), so those were remade.

This update also upgrades the internal database for some future work I'll be doing with barcode support.

Please leave feedback here on how often the barcode scanner finds the foods you enter.   I'm interested to know how complete the database I'm using is.
